CLNM Update - June 2020
Posted 24th June 2020
Over the last three months CLNM have elected 18 new representatives from House Projects across the country, established ‘The Founders’ who support our new representatives and redesigned our website!
We have also identified and started to challenge Local Authorities around their leaving care offer and have developed exciting partnerships with other Charities who share our ambition to improve outcomes for care leavers.
Lockdown hit on 21st March 2020, and until very recently all contact with others since this time has been via telephone calls, WhatsApp chats and video calls but this hasn’t stopped CLNM driving forward with our plans.
A particular drive has been our Digital Poverty Campaign, behind which sits a clear strategy. We have started a fundraising initiative to support our campaign which includes two successful grant applications and setting up;

Two businesses, Changing Minds and Insall Architects, have donated funds via Just Giving and have pledged their support to the CLNM Vision:
Our vision is to have a platform that authentically engages young people in developing care leaving services. By empowering and supporting care leavers within House Projects to positively challenge and influence leaving care services on a local and national scale, they can improve outcomes for young people leaving care across the country.
To date we have raised £5,800 and we are now working towards Stage 3 of our Strategy, having either provided data packages or reimbursed all young people in House Projects the cost of their data packages over the past 3 months (see picture above). Our final ambition for this campaign is to change the minimum offer set out by government to include unlimited internet provisions for care leavers living independently and semi independently - eradicating digital poverty! We have approached various Government departments regarding our ambitions and are set to make a stand this September in London.
Alongside all this, we have also produced a number of social media videos, providing support to other young people about how to keep in touch and are currently in the planning stages of producing and directing a film around isolation to support our Digital Poverty Campaign in partnership with Care Leaver Covenant and Partnership for Young London.

Most importantly, CLNM have continued to support each other throughout lockdown and have been a genuine crutch to others when they have felt low and in need of kind words. The Movement are a remarkable group of young people destined through their ambitious natures to change the world
