Digital Poverty Campaign

In these uncertain times there has never been a more important time to ensure that our young people are supported to remain connected. The House Project enables young people to build and maintain relationships but during isolation this is difficult to do when young people do not have access to devices and data packages.  The National House Project has therefore decided to develop its fundraising capacity to raise monies for the Care Leavers National Movement to enable young people to decide on how to support young people at these challenging times.

The CLNM is made up of young people who represent each of the Local House Projects from across the country. They come together to highlight best practice, share success stories, test new ideas and challenge systems and processes to improve the experience of moving to independence for all care leavers.

The National House Project (NHP), in conjunction with the CLNM, supports young people who are members of Local House Projects to build relationships and remain connected. This usually happens via regular group sessions, social activities and 1:1 sessions with staff members. At this challenging time, it is not always possible to support young people through face to face contact and this has prompted us to raise funds to support internet/device access for all young people in Local House Projects. This will enable them to communicate with their support network and peers both now and in the future.

Recently, the CLNM have spoken about how young people living alone manage on a very limited budget. Very few of them have luxuries such as broadband packages or electronic devices to access the internet. This has particular significance during this period of self-isolation and social distancing. With this in mind, we have turned our attention to fundraising strategies.

So, we now need your help! You can support the young people in projects by:

You can fundraise or donate to enable young people, who can often feel very isolated, to stay connected.

Amazon Smile – NHP

Amazon Smile has the same products and prices as the usual Amazon site but with the added benefit that for every purchase made, Amazon donates 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) to the charitable organisation of your choice. If you opt to add the National House Project as your charity of choice, it will raise money to directly benefit young people.

Please help us to support our young people by using the links yourself and sharing them with your friends, family and work colleagues.

All funds raised will be used to benefit young people directly. Whilst the focus at this time relates to keeping young people connected via electronic means, any additional funds raised
in the future will be used to provide young people with opportunities to develop their skills and ensure that they remain connected with each other, their support networks and the wider community.

Warm regards,

Mark Warr
